Discussion about “Nature” of Man must make reference to Man’s physical structure described by Science called Human Anatomy. The use of terms like “Higher” and “Lower” Nature of Man have to be associated with parts or areas of Man’s anatomical organ called Brain if “Nature” is entirely viewed as mental function.

Indian tradition suggests that Man performs actions or exhibits Behavior and Action under the influence of three “GUNAS” or Modes of Behavior called Good(Sattva), Passionate(Rajas), and Ignorant(Tamas). The same Man can act and exhibit all three types of Behavior depending upon variable, external, environmental stimuli, or under influence of inherent, hidden, mental stimuli as described by Theory of Psychoanalysis.

Human Nature must not be confused with Human Behavior and Action.

Human Nature need not be studied as mental function. I ask my readers to explore the Structure and Functions of Red Blood Cell to arrive at understanding of Human Nature.

For that reason, I cannot verify terms like Higher and Lower Nature of Man. However, mental activities described by Indian Tradition, activities such as Thinking & Imagination( Manas), Discernment, Intellect, Knowledge(Buddhi), Feelings and Mood( Chitta), and Self-Pride or Arrogance(Ahamkara) can be assigned to different areas of Brain.

All those four kinds of mental activities can be traced to areas of Brain that can be called “SELF.” These activities are known to part of Brain that I call “Knowing-Self.” I make this distinction as there is distinction between Contents of Consciousness and Composition of Consciousness. The Contents of Consciousness are experienced in different areas of Cerebral Cortex.

The part or area of Brain called Reticular Formation is the site where the Contents of Consciousness are composed and relayed to different areas of Cerebral Cortex where “Self” becomes aware of those contents. Reticular Formation can be called “The Knowing-Self” and this part plays critical role in regulating Respiration, Circulation, Arousal, and Motor Reflexes. It provides the basis for Self-Discipline, Self-Control, and Self-restraint.

In the orthodox statement of Raja yoga, concentration upon the Divine is optional, it is not compulsory, it is not imperative: you may concentrate upon the Divine or you may concentrate upon any object. The aim of Raja yoga is to control the mind, and for controlling the mind, you can pick up any object. It is even said that if you are in love with somebody and concentrate upon the object of love, even that would give you the stability of the mind. So, it gives many options. So, even concentration upon the Divine is also one of the options. But here, in the exposition of Raja yoga in the terms of the Gita, Sri Krishna says that you should become My–minded, concentrate upon Me, upon the Supreme.

yuñjann evaṁ sadātmānaṁ yogī niyatamānasaḥ |
śāntiṁ nirvāṇaparamāṁ matsaṁsthām, adhigacchati ||15|| (VI)

“Having restrained his mind, the Yogi constantly applies his mind to the self, attains peace, the Supreme Nirvana, which abides in Me.”

Now, there are two important points here. We had said that by the higher self, you should control the lower self; and if you do all these practices, then you will be able to sustain your self in the higher self, and in that higher self consciousness, you will have two important realizations. One is nirvāṇaparamāṁ śāntiṁ: there is ‘Akshara’, experience of complete inactivity…but matsaṁsthām,, but even that Akshara is seated in Me. That is: “I am still higher than that condition of inactivity”. Nirvana is not the ultimate goal; it is a part of the goal but not “the” ultimate goal because even…“That śāntiṁ, even that peace is not final; matsaṁsthām,, you should see that even ‘that’ state is seated in Me, and I am more than activity, I am more than inactivity. I am Purushottama. ”

yadā viniyataṁ cittam ātmany evāvatiṣṭhate |
nispṛhaḥ sarvakāmebhyo yukta ity ucyate tadā ||18|| (VI)

“When the citta is properly restrained and is established in the Self alone, then one becomes free from all desires, and is called a yukta––one who is established in Yoga.”

This term Chitta is used here, and that is a very important term in Raja yoga; one of the very first statements of Raja yoga is the definition of Yoga, and it says:

cittavṛttinirodhaḥ yogaḥ (yogasūtra 1.2)

“Yoga means, cittavṛttinirodhaḥ, retrained, cessation of the modifications of citta, of the stuff of consciousness.”
So, Sri Krishna uses here the same word: “When the Chitta is properly retrained, and is established in the Self alone, then one becomes free from all desires, and is called a yukta––one who is established in Yoga.”

yathā dīpo nivātastho neṅgate sopamā smṛtā |
yogino yatacittasya yuñjato yogam ātmanaḥ ||19|| (VI)

“Just as a lamp does not flicker in a windless place—such is the simile declared for the Yogi whose mind has been curbed and who practices union with the Supreme Self.”
When there is no wind at all, the light does not flicker, simile the mind of the Yogi does not flicker, it burns steadily without any kind of wavering.

yatroparamate cittam niruddhaṁ yogasevayā |
yatra caivātmanātmānaṁ paśyann ātmani tuṣyati ||20|| (VI)

“When Chitta is restrained by the practice of Yoga and is withdrawn from the worldly material activities, then the Yogi beholds the self within his own Self and he finds contentment.”
What is the nature of this contentment?

sukham ātyantikaṁ yat tad buddhigrāhyam atīndriyam |
vetti yatra na caivāyaṁ sthitaś calati tattvataḥ ||21|| (VI)

“One experiences this Transcendental Bliss…” This contentment gradually becomes an experience of the Supreme Bliss, “…Bliss which is atīndriyam, which transcends any sensual experience.” In other words, whatever may be the climaxes of sense experiences, and the delight, this Bliss goes even beyond that. “…it can be ceased by the intellect, buddhigrāhyam; it can be conceived and then, it goes even beyond Buddhi to experience it.” It can be conceived by Buddhi, but actually it goes, in experience even beyond that.

Is Raja yoga different from Buddhi yoga? The answer is this: in Buddhi yoga, the processes of Asana, Pranayama, and gradual processes of Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi, all that is not in a regulated manner given. By ‘mere process of thinking’, very clearly, you arrive at a distinction between the Real and the unreal, and then you get fixed in the Real. In that process, you are not required to seat down quietly, in an Asana, you are not required to do Pranayama, you are not required to go gradually from step to step, but it will show that Buddhi yoga is something relevant to those who are capable, intellectually, of making a distinction between the Real and the unreal. But all people may not be capable of that distinction. It is ready for those who are able to think so clearly, their minds are so clear that they can arrive at this distinction. But those who are not capable, for them a regular, a slow process is necessary. Therefore, you might say that elements of Buddhi yoga are present in Raja yoga, but the details of Raja yoga are not present in Buddhi yoga. Ultimately the distinction that has to be made between the Real and the unreal, that distinction even here in Raja yoga ultimately you have to do, but in a gradual manner, because this Raja yoga is particularly addressed to those people whose minds are really unstable. It is a special kind of a process given to those whose minds naturally does not seat quietly; and in fact most of us are like that therefore it is very valid for all of us, mostly. But it may not be so for those who really have developed…by birth it self they have a great capacity to be very quiet, so for them, all the Ashtanga Yoga is not necessary: this is the distinction. [In Gurbani Yama, Niyama, Asana and Pranayama are insisted upon. Dharana. Dhyana and Samadhi are founded on “Liv”, from where you start.]

… is it really possible for a human being to climb? It is as if, after having accepted all this statement, a lingering doubt may still remain in the mind of the seeker, and you might say that: well, what you are saying is wonderful, but is the human being capable of this climbing? That is why this 6th chapter begins with the statement that “you must raise yourself by the Self”. And even if you find that your mind is very unstable, there is a method by which you can control it.

What is that method? What is the special method? That special method is the special method of Raja yoga. It is that Raja yoga, which is very briefly stated here; we do not expect a complete exposition of Raja yoga here, but his basic element. And the basic elements of Raja yoga, the special distinguishing feature of Raja yoga is that you should first of all, regularly, attain to the mastery of Asana. The minimum condition in which you can control your mind is not to be fidgety, remaining at one place, dangling your feet all the time, and looking here and there, hither and thither. These are the minimum things that should be completely avoided, eliminated: ‘capacity to be really stable’. Before you can stabilize your mind, at least stabilize your body, at least make your seat absolutely firm. You should be able to sit erect; you should be able to be very quiet.

So, Asana is the first thing, and that is why here Sri Krishna will tell us:

śucau deśe pratiṣṭhāpya sthiram āsanam ātmanaḥ |
nātyucchritaṁ nātinīcaṁ cailājinakuśottaram ||11|| (VI)

He gives the description of Asana, how should you seat: firmly, stably.
“He should establish a firm seat in a pure place which is neither too high nor too low, and upon which is spread either Kusha grass or a deer skin or a cloth.”

tatraikāgraṁ manaḥ kṛtvā yatacittendriyakriyaḥ |
upaviśyāsane yuñjyād yogam ātmaviśuddhaye ||12|| (VI)

Now, comes the mental aspect of it. That was the physical aspect, now, the mental aspect: “Having seated on it, let him practice Yoga for the purification of the mind, after making the mind to a state of one–pointed–ness (ekāgraṁ cittam), and controlling his mind, senses and activities.”

This is what is called in the Raja Yoga more elaborately: first of all you should have ‘Asana’; then you should have Pranayama, which also Sri Krishna will come to very quickly. In the actual process of ‘Yoga’, if you read the Raja yoga, it is called aṣṭāṅga Yoga, there are eight steps. The first step is called the state by which your moral purification is first achieved: ‘Yama’ and ‘Niyama’; then comes ‘Asana’; then ‘Pranayama’; then ‘Pratyahara’; then ‘Dharana’; then ‘Dhyana’; and then ‘Samadhi’. These are the eight steps of Raja Yoga.
Now, all these eight steps are not described here exactly in the form in which we get in Raja yoga, because here they is a summary statement, and it is understood normally, because it is well known. Therefore you don’t need to expand the whole thing in detail in the same way in which Rajayogis do, but the essence of it is all given here. So, it says: “Having seated on it, let him practice Yoga for the purification of the mind.” This is a kind of a process of what is called pratyāhāra. Pratyahara is a state in which you withdraw from other objects. Even before you concentrate upon one object, you withdraw from other objects: this is called Pratyahara. [Pratyahara is called in Gurbani, establishing “liv”]

Then, concentrate upon one subject is called dhāraṇā. Then dhyāna is a real pointed–ness, you really dwell upon it, and having delved upon it sufficiently, you get merged into it: that is samādhi. These are the different stages, but basically it is one–pointed–ness. So, in summary it is said: let him purify his mind by one–pointed–ness,ekāgraṁ manaḥ kṛtvā, in one phrase it is given, manaḥ ekāgraṁ kṛtvā: you should completely be one–pointed in your mind.

The next verse is nothing but the same statement described in other words:

bandhur ātmātmanas tasya yenātmaivātmanā jitaḥ |
anātmanas tu śatrutve vartetātmaiva śatruvat ||6|| (VI)

“For one who has conquered his very self by his own Self, his very self becomes his friend, but for one who has not conquered his self, his very self will act inimically, as would an actual enemy.”

Now, once you begin to rise above…now the consequent and subsequent statement in the Bhagavad Gita speak to you once again of the state of equality. As you rise in freedom more and more, your capacity to be equal minded becomes greater. You will see through out the Gita, there is constant emphasis on equality, a subject that we discussed last time with all its paraphernalia, with all its delusions, with all its different stages, but ultimately when this freedom is being exercised more and more, then you will be free even in adverse circumstances; you will not be exited even in unfavorable circumstances; and you will take your own stand in which no desire can touch you:

jitātmanaḥ praśāntasya paramātmā samāhitaḥ |
śītoṣṇasukhaduḥkheṣu tathā mānāpamānayoḥ ||7|| (VI)

“One who has conquered his self and has attained tranquility, who remains balanced in cold–heat, pleasure–pain, and honor–dishonor, his mind is centered on the Supreme Self.”

The 8th, 9th, 10th they are again re–statements of this very position of equality. So, we shall rapidly study them. In the 8th verse it is said:

jñānavijñānatṛptātmā kūṭastho vijitendriyaḥ |
yukta ity ucyate yogī samaloṣṭāśmakāñcanaḥ ||8|| (VI)

“The Yogi whose self is content in knowledge and in realization, who is immutable, master of his senses and for whom an earth–clod, a stone, a piece of gold are the same, is said to be controlled in Yoga.”

suhṛnmitrāryudāsīnamadhyasthadveṣyabandhuṣu |
sādhuṣv api ca pāpeṣu samabuddhir viśiṣyate ||9|| (VI)

“He who has a balanced mind towards well wishers, friends, enemies, the indifferent, the impartial, the hateful, relatives, saints as well as sinners, he excels.”

yogī yuñjīta satatam ātmānaṁ rahasi sthitaḥ |
ekākī yatacittātmā nirāśīr aparigrahaḥ ||10|| (VI)

“When you begin to rise into this freedom, into the state of equality, you begin to feel greater and greater attraction towards ekākī, you begin to become more and more solitary…yogī yuñjīta satatam ātmānaṁ rahasi sthitaḥ |
ekākī yatacittātmā nirāśīr aparigrahaḥ ||10|| (VI)…you have no personal hopes; you have no desire to collect and store things; your whole mind is concentrated, your citta is concentrated upon the Self; you remain isolated, you remain solitary; and then you remain in a state of equality.”

“A Yogi should constantly concentrate his mind on the Supreme Self remaining in solitude, all alone, with controlled mind and body, free from desires, and craving for possessions.”

Now comes in the next few verses a very important subject. We are now shifting entirely from uddhared ātmanātmānaṁ, you should raise your self from the self. From that subject we are now coming to a new subject, although connected with it. It is said that your citta should be concentrated upon the Self, (upon the higher self), but already earlier Arjuna had raised the question that this citta, this manas, this cancalam, it is too vivacious, so unstable. Even if you want to raise yourself, can you raise yourself? Or is it prakṛtiṁ yānti bhūtāni? So, Sri Krishna now enters into that subject, and gives an exposition of what is called ‘Dhyana Yoga’. Now, this Dhyana Yoga is actually speaking, in our classical system of tradition, is called ‘Raja yoga’.

Therefore, when we speak of Yoga in the Bhagavad Gita it may give an impression that the book of Bhagavad Gita is nothing but the same Yoga, which is Raja Yoga and of which we have spoken today in general parlance, and we had said that the Yoga, the word Yoga is not used in that sense in the Bhagavad Gita. The word Yoga used in the Gita has a larger connotation, has a larger meaning, a larger sweep.

Biology describes Biotic Interactions as Intraspecific, and Interspecific Interactions. The characteristics of Biotic Interactions are described using terms such as Mutualism, Symbiosis, Commensalism, and Parasitism. All these Biotic Interactions performing guided, sequential, purposeful, and goal-oriented actions.

People’s Republic of China or Red China is governed by political doctrine called Communism which provides rule or governance by a One-Party political structure which lays emphasis on the requirements of State rather than on Individual Liberties. Communist State plans and controls all aspects of economy apart from social, cultural, and religious aspects of all Individual State Subjects. Communist State sponsors Violence to establish tyranny or totalitarian regime. Communist Policy or Doctrine demands use of power or authority by Party and State to oppose Natural Rights and Natural Freedom entitled to citizens.

Red China, in pursuit of its State Policy of Military Expansionism, made an unprovoked attack on Tibet in 1950. Red China uses her Military Power or Force to threaten, to harm, to cause pain, to give misery, to bring misfortune, and to create trouble in the lives of Tibetans to force them live under State-sponsored Occupation, Oppression, Repression, Suppression, and Subjugation.

Natural History of Tibet reveals that Nature uplifted Tibet using massive force of Collision generated by Indian landmass northwards thrust into Asian Continent. This Natural Event created Natural Condition that sustains Natural Freedom experienced by denizens of Tibet. Red China’s military occupation of Tibet fundamentally opposes Nature’s Plan for Tibet.

New Campaign Aimed at Increasing Loyalty to Party, China

To many people’s ears the phrase “Four Loves” probably invokes images of a pop music act or a self-help philosophy – not an authoritarian regime’s latest campaign for political loyalty. But the Chinese Communist Party is once again deploying gentle terms to conceal its suppression of human rights.

Tibet, a region known for systemic, state-sponsored human rights violations, is now awash with posters celebrating the “Four Emphases and Four Loves.” The campaign requires people to “Love the core by emphasizing the Party’s kindness/Love the motherland by emphasizing unity/Love your home by emphasizing what you can contribute/Love your life by emphasizing knowledge.”

Translation: don’t criticize policies or officials and do show gratitude and loyalty to “the core” – the CCP and its leader Xi Jinping. The only way to “love the motherland” is to oppose anything that threatens “unity,” which certainly includes substantive criticism of the Party or the state or any discussion of independence or increased autonomy. And to be a “good citizen” is to focus one’s efforts on what you can “contribute” – but implicitly it’s up to the Party to decide what can or cannot be contributed.

It’s also never too early to start indoctrinating people in this mindset: photos from primary schools in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet, show children “speaking [their] hearts to Grandpa [President] Xi.” One is captioned, “The words of the heart spelled out in…small notes.”

Campaigns for Tibetans’ hearts and minds seem almost tragic against the backdrop of repression there. In recent years authorities have reshaped the region’s economy in a manner that suits the central government and effectively excludes Tibetans from decision-making – and in the case of some nomadic communities leaves them demonstrably worse off.

Authorities remain suspicious of Tibetans’ loyalties, and have also radically expanded the security and surveillance apparatus, and methodically inserted state control into all aspects of religious practice. Meanwhile, Tibetans – and many others across China – have virtually no ability to help develop, change, or object to the policies that profoundly affect their lives.

Propaganda – no matter how treacly, and no matter how many pink hearts deployed – is unlikely to generate the kind of loyalty or respect Chinese authorities seem to want from Tibetans. Respect for Tibetans’ human rights, on the other hand, might go a long way towards that goal.

India’s Tectonic Collision with Asia began about 45 million years ago. Most school children learn that the Tibetan Plateau called ‘The Roof of the World’ is product of India-Eurasia Continental Collision. The Northward motion of the Indian plate maintains Tibetan Plateau. Tibet stands more than three miles above Sea Level. The Natural Force operating to maintain Tibetan Plateau contributed to Tibet’s geographical isolation apart from sustaining Natural Order, Natural Balance, and Natural Equilibrium for long periods of time even after arrival of man in Natural World. My theory on Beijing’s Doom takes into consideration Natural Factors, Natural Mechanisms, Natural Forces, and Natural Events that impact Natural Conditions of Earth. Asteroid, Meteor or Bolide Impacts are one of the most destructive forces in the Solar System. The effects of such ‘Heavenly Strikes’ or Asteroid Impacts linger for billions of years. Several such ‘Heavenly Strikes’ on planet Earth in the past caused Major Extinction Events altering the face of Earth. The last such Major Extinction Event happened about 35 million years ago and contributed to Eocene Mass Extinction. In my analysis, Tibetans enjoy Natural Freedom and lead Lifestyles characterized by Natural Sense of Independence as it is entirely preserved by Natural Forces operating in Tibet. Tibetans have chosen a Spiritual Leader called the Dalai Lama to manage their lives both as individuals and as a national group. Succession of Political Power in the Institution of Dalai Lama depends upon Natural Selection predetermined by Dalai Lama’s Living Spirit which is not influenced by Human Choice or Human Action. In Tibet’s long political history, foreign conquests by Mongol Dynasty and Ch’ing or Qing Dynasty of China have not altered Natural Freedom and Natural Lifestyle of Independence that shapes Tibetan Existence. Red China’s Military Conquest and Occupation of Tibet since 1950s cannot be described as Natural Event. Communist takeover of Tibetan National Affairs and Tibetan Governance remains “UNNATURAL” Event, for it is not shaped by Natural Force that still prevails in sustaining Tibetan Identity. I foresee Nature’s Plan for Natural Freedom in Tibet coming into operation by executing Regime Change in Beijing.

Nature will counteract against Red China’s use of Physical Force that led to Tibet’s Occupation. Beijing invited this devastating Disaster, Catastrophe, Calamity, Cataclysmic Event, Apocalypse, or Doom because of her own Evil Action using Physical Force in Unjust, Unfair, and irresponsible manner. Beijing cannot ward off the impending Disaster by paying ransom. Beijing will experience Regime Change not because military actions of other nations of this World.

I am predicting Cosmic Event, Asteroid or Heavenly Strike to deliver and unleash massive force of Power or Energy to punch Beijing causing her sudden, unexpected Downfall restoring Tibet to its Original, or Natural Condition, or State called FREE.

Researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles precisely dated rocks from beneath the Popigai impact crater in remote Siberia to the Eocene epoch mass extinction that occurred 33.7 million years ago. Popigai crater is one of the 10 biggest impact craters on Earth, and in 2012, Russian scientists claimed the crater harbors a gigantic industrial diamond deposit.

The new age, which is later than other estimates, means the Eocene extinction — long blamed on climate change — now has another prime suspect: an “impact winter.” Meteorite blasts can trigger a deadly global chill by blanketing the Earth’s atmosphere with tiny particles that reflect the sun’s heat. This isn’t the first time flying space rocks have been implicated in the Eocene’s mass die-offs. Other possible culprits besides Popigai crater include three smaller Earth-meteorite smashups between 35 million and 36 million years ago: Chesapeake Bay crater offshore Virginia, Toms Canyon crater offshore New Jersey and Mistastin crater in Labrador, Canada.

Previously, all four craters were ruled out because of their ages. Earlier dating attempts had pinned Popigai’s impact age at 35.7 million years ago, Wielicki said. And 2 million years is too much of a time lag between a meteorite blast and disappearing species, he said. The cosmic impact that killed the dinosaurs 65 million years ago coincides in time with its extinction by just 33,000 years, according to the most precise dating techniques available.

With no meteorite to blame for the Eocene mass extinction, scientists focused on climate change. In this case, global cooling killed off many species, researchers think.

Here’s how they can tell: By measuring isotopes of oxygen, carbon and other elements in Eocene-age rocks, researchers can estimate Earth’s past temperature and greenhouse-gas levels. (Isotopes are elements with different numbers of neutrons in their nuclei.) The signal from the Eocene shows the epoch started off extremely warm and then swung toward colder, drier conditions before the big extinction event. However, a sharp spike in these climate signals at the end of the Eocene hints at short-lived but extreme global cooling, followed by a rebound to warmer temperatures.

“The age of the crater matches perfectly with that [short-term] global change,” Wielicki said.

Wielicki thinks the Popigai impact created a global icehouse, similar to the climate disasters seen after enormous volcanic eruptions or the dinosaur-killing impact. The meteoritic crash could have pumped massive amounts of sunlight-reflecting sulfur droplets into the atmosphere, he said. The planet’s “quick” recovery, in geologic time, set plants and animals on an evolutionary path to modern species.

The end of the Eocene was the last big mass extinction in Earth’s history. More than 90 percent of snails disappeared, sea urchins were hard hit and the earliest toothed whales died off, which eventually would be replaced by modern whales. The dramatic shift of European mammals, called the “Grand Coupure,” occurred soon afterward, following Eocene-Oligocene transition.

FATE vs KARMA

I am totally dismayed by Sri. Aurobindo’s statement on Fate. However, he is entitled to his views as long as he makes distinction between his personal opinion and the traditions of Land. Karma is not Indian explanation of Fate. Apparently, Sri. Aurobindo fails to understand the concepts of Fate and Karma apart from not knowing as to what Indians generally think on such issues. India is often described as The Land of Karma.

Generally, Indians speak of three kinds of Karma, 1. Sanchita or Sabeeja Karma, the Karma Balance with which newborn arrives in life, 2. Agami Karma, the Karma Balance that is not yet experienced but likely to be experienced during the course of one’s lifetime ( both present and future), and 3. Prarabdha Karma, the Karma Balance that is being experienced in present condition of life at given time.

Fate describes Power or Agency ( in Indian Tradition, this Power or Agency may not be the same as GOD) which determines the outcome of events before they occur. Neither the individual, nor God may have the ability to influence or change or alter the ‘Outcome’ predetermined by Fate or Destiny and it speaks of inevitability of the outcome if it is destined to happen.

For all living things exist as Individuals with Individuality, the purpose of existence needs definition on individualistic basis. However, it must be noted that bodies do not comprise the ‘Whole of Existence’. For that reason, we have to ask, 1.What is it existing?, 2. Who is it existing?, 3. Where is it existing?, 4. When is it existing?, and 5. Why is it existing?

I describe reality of man in terms of ‘Matter’, an indispensable factor in the constitution of physical thing. Matter is associated with the idea of quantity, the basic magnitudes such as Mass, Space, and Time. That which is or has Matter in it necessarily occupies Space. While Time and Space are thought of as ‘immaterial’ dimensions, existence of material things is always influenced by Time and Space. For example, the era of Dinosaurs is entirely different from present time. Planet Earth is not the same as it existed in times before. In fact, Earth is never present at the same location in Space at any given two instants while man may experience changing Seasons in consistent manner.

It is not easy or practical to define individualistic purpose in life as life is always influenced by cosmic events such as ‘BOLIDE’ collision which in the past wiped out the entire, thriving population of Dinosaurs.

The man’s transient, mortal existence constantly faces dangers or challenges in unpredictable manner. The man is constantly driven to make choices and the man often acts as if he is in control of his life and external circumstances that tend to modify the course of his life. Human existence could be viewed as a game of chess. Depending upon the nature of the opponent, human existence faces challenges from several directions which may not be anticipated, and the human player may or may not be able to escape from the danger posed to his existence.

I am asking readers to examine the concept of Fate, Destiny, Predestination, Vidhi, Daivam, and Niyati shared by people all over the world apart from Jews, Christians, Muslims, and Hindus. The Controller or the Agency that operates Fate or Destiny could be different from God. At least in Indian tradition, epic poems of Valmiki Ramayana refer to Vidhi, Daivam, and Niyati as Knower/Power foreordaining of all that will happen. Most Hindus worship Lord Rama and glorify Him as Absolute Reality or Ultimate Truth. And yet, Prince Rama’s Life Journey proceeds as if all His actions were Predestined or foreordained.

Spirituality Science – Soul vs Body Dualism

The traditional Indian School of Thought called Samkhya Doctrine proclaims Soul-Body Dualism or the separation of Body and its Soul. In my view, this theory has no merit and has no validity. The Samkhya Theory of Soul has no practical application in real World. Science does not speak about Soul or Spirit. It does not mean that Science endorses Soul-Body Dualism. Science provides information that disproves separation of Man into Body, Mind, and Soul. The Indian School of Thought called Dvaita founded by Madhva explains the reasons for Soul-Matter Dualism. But, that separation or distinction is not applicable to Living Body or Living Thing in which Soul represents the Vital, Animating, Life Principle. The vital, animating principle called spirit or soul helps to distinguish the living matter from the Nonliving or inanimate matter. To the same extent, I reject Soul-Mind Dualism and Body-Mind Cartesian Dualism.

Shankara, Ramanuja, and Madhva invested their time to discuss about Soul and God without verifying the basis for Human Existence in the Natural World. It appears that they did not attach much importance to Samkhya Doctrine and formulated their own Doctrines of Advaita, Visishtadvaita, and Dvaita. Samkhya appears in The Bhagavad Gita, Chapter II, but the Doctrine gets discredited in other Chapters.

I support Sankara’s view in terms of Unity and not that of Identity. I support Ramanuja’s view of Matter and Soul modifying God, and to the same extent claim that Soul which resides in Human Body gets modified by Body and Mind to establish Unity between God, Soul, Mind, and Body. Matter, and Prakriti are still distinct from God, Soul, Mind, and Body. In fact, to formulate Living Matter and Living Things, God designed mechanisms for Energy Acquisition, Energy Exploitation, and Energy Transformation. All Living Things exploit Matter and Energy found in their external environment.

Firstly, there is no Mind that has independent existence of its own. Mind and Body are always united for both parts are derived from Single, Fertilized Egg Cell. Secondly, this discussion about Soul or Spirit, Life and Living makes Fundamental Distinction or Dualism called Living vs Nonliving, Animate vs Inanimate, and Sensible vs Insensible. If there is no distinction between Matter and Matter, there is no need to discuss about Soul or Spirit.

The distinction between Living Matter and Nonliving Matter is based upon prevalence of certain chemical molecules like Nucleic Acids which are only associated with Living and not found in Matter present in places outside Earth. Man uses these Chemical Compounds to find traces of Life in places like Moon or Mars.

If Soul or Spirit is unchanging, immortal, or everlasting, it remains the same now, in the past, and in future. So let us talk about Soul or Spirit in relationship with Matter that exists today and that can be verified today.

Soul or Spirit, when viewed as Unchanging or Immutable Life Principle, does not support Theory of Evolution. For that reason, I ask readers to reconsider using phrases like “Evolving” Soul or Spirit. Sri. Aurobindo makes a variety of statements without validating any of his claims.

When we discuss terms like ‘Transcendent’ during our conversation about Life and Living, it important to identify the Domain or Realm. All living things have well-defined domains in Nature called Natural Habitats. Earth is Life’s Natural Domain and all Phenomena are experienced on Earth. For example, Man can experience Natural Phenomenon of Rainbow only on planet Earth and nowhere else. For that reason, we have to make distinction between Natural Domain/Realm and Supernatural Realm/Domain. Moon, all other planets, Sun, Stars, and Galaxies belong to Supernatural Domain/Realm. The events experienced on Sun cannot be experienced on Earth. Sunrise and Sunset experienced on Earth cannot be experienced on other planets for all of them have different rotational and spin characteristics.

Firstly, I am asking my readers to join this discussion after acquiring basic understanding of Natural Sciences such as Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Geology, Psychology, Human Anatomy, and Human Physiology as the information provided is very relevant to our discussion.

I ask my readers to give attention to understanding Life on Earth, in the Material, Terrestrial Realm or Domain. Without understanding the Physical Basis for Existence, it will be futile to give attention to complex ideas such as Mental Plane, Astral Plane, etc.,

Spontaneous Generation Theory, Life arising from Non-Living Matter is proven to be wrong. Matter does not evolve into Living Matter. There is no “Evolution.” It is not happening today. For Life is Created, it can still be proven as Creative Phenomenon. For example, every Living Cell exists as Individual with Individuality and there are never two identical cells. This is proven by experimental verification.

Indian Tradition always claimed that Soul, Spirit, the Life Principle is never affected, is never influenced by Nature, Physical Environment, or PRAKRITI. It is unchanging while Living Things exhibit varied responses to external, environmental stimuli. Indian Tradition claims that Man performing actions under Three Different Modes of Nature is distinct from True or Real Man who is endowed with Spiritual Nature. For that reason, even evil, wicked, cruel, and ignorant persons are still deemed to be of Divine Nature as Actions and Behavior cannot affect Spiritual Nature that transforms “I” into “I Am.”

Even if a realistic consideration is given, which is quite free and
bereft of all shades of supernatural assumptions, LIFE appears to be as
follows:

All creatures, from the most primitive to the highly evolved, struggle
to exist. The one single pursuit of all creatures is to struggle for life
preservation. Struggle to stay alive is the principal occupation. Preserve!
And procreate! This is the natural order within which all creatures exist.
But in this universe of struggle, human struggle stands out very
distinctly! Distinct because, the humankind struggles not only to just
physically preserve and procreate, we also struggle to preserve and protect
our notion of “Self” identity (ego). Unlike the struggles of all other
creatures, this sort of human struggle (egoistic) precipitates sorrow and
anguish. Hence, it may not be totally wrong to mention that rest of the
creatures except humankind struggle without sorrow! Humankind has
deceptively identified its inherent ‘Self-conscious’ mode of perception and
reaction as a stepping-stone to gain pleasure and comfort in the “herein”
life and an immortal eternity in the “hereafter” life! But, this ‘Self-conscious
stepping-stone’ has after all turned out to be a ‘tripping-stone’, on which the
humanity is stumbling and tottering for eternity! Religious mythologies and
recorded history from all regions of the human-world, hold testimony to this
“Self” created appalling plight.

In fact, the principal struggle for humankind is centred and oriented
to preserve their notion of “Self” identity. The crisis in the human
consciousness is the crisis of identity. Self-assertion, Self-esteem, Self Pride,
Self-honour are the many faces of our egocentric “Self”-identity. For
a matured discerning perception, it is quite evident that the many dire
dangers which are challenging the human physical preservation are
unwittingly created by this very “Self” preservation! This incredible
deception, human consciousness is not at all aware of. Though each human
being may be oblivious of this fact, the human history beginning from the
very hoary anthropological evidences are fully validating this “Self”
generated horror. “Self” has unleashed time-and-again mass murders and
material destructions, which perhaps even nature’s fury can not match!

For all creatures, ending the struggle for physical preservation would
mean death. Hence, all creatures including humankind have to continue the
efforts to stay alive, until our appointed moments of death. Where as for
humankind, its struggle for “Self” (ego) preservation is not only
unnecessary but it is even quite harmful. Humankind’s struggles for “Self”
preservation must come to an end.

This quixotic struggle is, by the deception called “Self”, produced of
the“ Self” and repeated endlessly for the “Self”. This enigmatic struggle
has ‘Mothered’ layers of endless unnatural complex fears(phobia) and
desires(mania). The principal one of this edifice is, fear of “Self annihilation
and desire for “Self” continuity. Unnatural fears and desires accumulated for
aeons in humankind have different names. Aham, Self, I, Psyche, Atman,
ME, Ego etc.

Only in ending of this struggle completely, humankind can restore
order and peace in their midst. We all should deeply realise the utter futility
of our struggle for “Self” (ego) preservation. Unlike other creatures,
humankind with the help of its highly endowed brain power is able to
provide fairly easily for its physical preservation. For each one to have
food, clothing and shelter at its essential level does not demand any
excruciating struggle. Insensitivity to this legitimate need of others,
happens in our midst only due to our illegitimate “Self-centred” attitudes
and blind actions. In spite of the utter redundancy of “Self”- centred
struggle, humankind struggles endlessly in its lifetime. Beyond the natural
limits of ‘Creature-Comfort’, human civilisation has spun many irrelevant
hallucinations of value based goals and is eternally caught in its own net of
deceptions. Such a gigantic struggle of humankind is the outcome of
unquenchable ambitions and greeds. Each of our greedy “Self”(ego) is
unendingly ambitious to fulfil (fill-full) its “Self”-esteem. This is an
unending pursuit of self-aggrandizement. Humankind is unable to realise
that such a fulfilment does not really ‘exist’ in the scheme of creation. Why
because, the “Self” itself is the projected outcome of deception. A
deception can never be satisfied. Hence, the only solution for our Self Deception
IS Self-realisation. We have to deeply realise right in the midst of
our daily living that our “Self” is a falsehood. Our egoistic identity is but a
deception. All values and mental drives which have surfaced in our midst
based on images of Self-esteem and Self-pride have to be purged. There is
just no scope in the scheme of creation for “Self”- continuity. All shades of
“Self” (egoistic) defences have to be renounced.

Efforts which are totally free from the dark shadows of fuming and
fretting, sorrow and anguish can hardly befit to be called as struggle! Hence
for us to stay alive, it only calls for intelligent minimal efforts. To struggle,
is the sure sign of deep ignorance. The mind numbing struggle is not only
unnecessary but it is even harmful for our very existence!
Only this clear insight will allow the wholesome trust to well-up in
the human consciousness, which is presently poisoned by the notion of
“Self” (ego). Trust in the grand order of togetherness. Non-dual
togetherness, in which all other creatures seem to naturally participate, but
the same is resisted and rejected by the ego of humankind. Only in
togetherness, which is totally free of ego’s alienation ORDER IS. Alienation
is disorder. Obsessively believing in an imaginary individuality and its
separate destiny is implied by alienation. This notion gives rise to an
unnatural phobia of “Self” preservation. This is certainly a deception. This
is a morbid disorder at the very foundation of human perception. Until
this tricky (as well sticky) anomaly is nullified, no human problem can be
fully solved. This is why, each solution worked out to solve the existing
problems, in turn become problems themselves! For peace to be, human
living should happen free of such a “Self” concern and “Self”
consciousness.

All living creatures should yield (flow) free of struggle and resistance
to the grand-order of Creation. In all other creatures this implicit obedience
to the grand-order of togetherness (i.e. Unnaturally not fearing and vainly
trying psychically to resist the cycle of birth, growth, decay and death)
seems to be happening rather unconsciously. Where as, the nature seems
to have intended that humankind has to accept the flux of one’s own
existence along with the flux of other aspects of creation “fully
consciously”. “Arise and Awake” really has such a revolutionary
connotation.

Self-realisation is to mutate radically out of Self-deception.

Will Durant (November 5, 1885 – November 7, 1981) was an American writer, historian and philosopher. He is best known for The Story of Civilization, 11 volumes written in collaboration with his wife, Ariel Durant, and published between 1935 and 1975. He was earlier noted for The Story of Philosophy (1926), described as “a groundbreaking work that helped to popularize philosophy”.

The Durants were awarded the Pulitzer Prize for General Non-Fiction in 1968 and the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977.

Ariel Durant died on October 25, 1981. Will Durant died in less than two weeks on November 7,1981.They were married for over Seventy years.

Will you interrupt your work for a moment and play the game of philosophy with me?

“I am attempting to face a question which our generation, perhaps more than any, seems always ready to ask and never able to answer — What is the meaning or worth of human life? Heretofore this question has been dealt with chiefly by theorists, from Ikhnaton and Lao-tse to Bergson and Spengler. The result has been a kind of intellectual suicide: thought, by its very development, seems to have destroyed the value and significance of life. The growth and spread of knowledge, for which so many idealists and reformers prayed, has resulted in a disillusionment which has almost broken the spirit of our race.

“Astronomers have told us that human affairs constitute but a moment in the trajectory of a star; geologists have told us that civilization is but a precarious interlude between ice ages; biologists have told us that all life is war, a struggle for existence among individuals, groups, nations, alliances, and species; historians have told us that ‘progress’ is a delusion, whose glory ends in inevitable decay; psychologists have told us that the will and the self are the helpless instruments of heredity and environment, and that the once incorruptible soul is but a transient incandescence of the brain. Every invention strengthens the strong and weakens the weak; every new mechanism displaces men, and multiplies the horror of war. God, who was once the consolation of our brief life, and our refuge in bereavement and suffering, has apparently vanished from the scene; no telescope, no microscope discovers him. Life has become, in that total perspective which is philosophy, a fitful pullulation of human insects on the earth, a planetary eczema that may soon be cured; nothing is certain in it except defeat and death — a sleep from which, it seems, there is no awakening.

“We are driven to conclude that the greatest mistake in human history was the discovery of ‘truth.’ It has not made us free, except from delusions that comforted us and restraints that preserved us. It has not made us happy, for truth is not beautiful, and did not deserve to be so passionately chased. As we look on it now we wonder why we hurried so to find it. For it has taken from us every reason for existence except the moment’s pleasure and tomorrow’s trivial hope.

“This is the pass to which science and philosophy have brought us. I, who have loved philosophy for many years, now turn back to life itself, and ask you, as one who has lived as well as thought, to help me understand.
