DEMOCRACY AND THE FUTURE OF TIBET

H.H.Dalai Lama returned to Dharamsala,Himachal Pradesh, India on Saturday, February 27, 2010 after a successful visit to the United States. He was awarded the Democracy Service Medal.

During his recent visit to the United States,H.H. Dalai Lama was awarded the Democracy Service Medal at the Library of Congress in Washington D.C. To spread the values of Democracy and Freedom, we need to practice what we preach. He needs to put this Democracy Service Medal into action. To introduce Democracy into Tibet, H.H. Dalai Lama must transfer his temporal powers to the People of Tibet. All entities in Tibet must draw their power from the source of Peoples’ Power. The Power of People is reposed in a document called the Constitution. The Constitution of Tibet becomes the source of temporal authority and power. Dalai Lama would function as the Head of the State of Tibet strictly in accordance with the provisions made in the Constitution of Tibet. People would elect their representatives to KALONTRIPA in accordance with the rules and terms as provided by the Constitution. Dalai Lama would hold his Office as the Head of the State and defend the Constitution of Tibet. The term of his Office would be decided by the Constitution of Tibet. The choice and appointment of a future Dalai Lama would also be made according to provisions in the Constitution. That is the beauty of Democracy. It allows the transition of power in a systematic, orderly, transparent, and peaceful way. The future of Tibet depends upon restoring people’s  power to people.
