Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan (1888 -1975). I met this President during his retired life at his residence in Mylapore,Madras(Chennai). I am related to this President on my maternal side. His daughter married my maternal grandfather’s( Dr. Kasturi. Narayana Murty, M.D. Professor of Medicine Madras Medical College, Madras ) younger brother Kasturi. Seshagiri Rao who practiced Law. Mylapore is my birthplace and I grew up there. The reasons for strengthening these connections are as follows: 1. Dr. Sarvepalli studied in Madras Christian College and worked in Presidency College, Madras. My father also studied and worked in Presidency College. I am related and worked with people who studied in Madras Christian College. 2. My father taught Indian History and Sarvepalli Gopal also taught Indian History. 3. Apart from my father, several of my relatives belong to Teaching Profession. 4. As a child, I was aware of Vice President and later President of India in the context of India’s Diplomacy during Cold War Era. 5. The 1962 War happened during his Presidency and Special Frontier Force was formulated during his Presidency. These events shaped my choice to serve in Indian Army. I was granted Direct Permanent Regular Commission in Army Medical Corps in March 1973 while I served as Medical Officer at Doom Dooma, Assam with Special Frontier Force. Hello there,
I know this post is rather old, but I just wanted to comment on it anyway, as I have only just come across it, and wanted to share a bit of information with you.
I’m one of Radhakrishnan’s great-granddaughters.
One of his five daughters, Anasuya, is my grandmother (on my mother’s side).
But I don’t carry the Sarvepalli name, as my grandparents’ marriage produced five daughters and no sons.. So naturally, we all take our father’s names instead.
My mother is Anasuya’s fourth child and daughter.
My own father is of French descent, originally from the Seychelles; my parents met here in the UK in the early 80s. I am their eldest child, and was born and raised in London, England. (I am 20 years old now.)
However, I do visit India on occasion to see my grandparents and other family members when I get the chance.
As far as I know, my grandmother is the only surviving child of Radhakrishnan.
She still resides in Chennai with my grandfather 🙂

Hi Natalie,
I am indeed very pleased to hear from you. I love these family connections. For man is a created being, the social connections and relationships exist for some purpose. I enjoy sharing my ideas with others. Chennai, Mylapore is my birthplace and I still carry fond memories of early childhood years spent there. My views on human soul or spirit are different from those shared by thinkers like Dr. Radhakrishnan. I speak about the fundamental unity of God,Soul, mind, and body to establish the human existence. Most Indian thinkers are more concerned about the identity between God and Soul and essentially belong to three different Schools of philosophy called Unqualified Non-Dualism(Advaita), Qualified Dualism(Visishtadvaita), and Dualism(Dvaita). My primary concern is not that of the distinctions between God, Soul, and Matter. To exist as a human being, we need the unity between God, Soul, and Matter. Kindly pay my respects to your mother and to your grandmother Anasuya garu. I would be happy if your grandmother is willing to write to me to share her views or those of her father. Internet is a medium that helps people to communicate easily in their own spare time. I send you my best wishes and would be happy to know about your educational experience in the United Kingdom. My maternal, and paternal grandparents had served the British Crown, and my father’s elder brother had served in the Royal Navy during the Second World War. I had served in the Land Forces of Sultanate Oman under the Command of a British Officer and had the opportunity to work with a fairly large number of British Service personnel and other British citizens.
With best wishes,
Rudra

Dear Dr. Vishnu Prasad Adhikari,
Thanks for finding time to read my blog post. You are correct. I mentioned about Dr. Sarvepalli Gopal in a different blog post. Please review my post: September 05 – Dr Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s Birthday – Reflections on my Mylapore, Madras, Chennai Family Connections I want to share my reflections on my Mylapore, Madras, Chennai Family Connections. This relationship connects several important events of my life’s journey. For I believe in the doctrine of predestination, I can trace my life’s journey as a series of predetermined events. In my analysis, time and the place are of equal importance in the formulation of predetermined events. I shall discuss the role of time and place in the context of three issues; 1. Birth Place, 2. Relationships, for example, Radhakrishnan worked in Presidency College, Madras where my father studied and worked, and 3. Final Destination. My father studied in Presidency College, Madras and later worked there during my early childhood years spent in Mylapore. Radhakrishnan’ s son, Sarvepalli Gopal studied in Presidency College.
You have provided a very good reason as to why you must learn about the importance of History. For you grew up in Mylapore, Chennai, you would also know that Sarvepalli Gopal taught History. I ask my readers to learn about the history of the military organization known as Special Frontier Force-Establishment No. 22-Vikas Regiment.
With very warm regards,
Bhavanajagat.

Hi there,
I don’t have any male cousins on my grandmother (Radhakrishnan’s daughter side) who have the name Gouravaram. I only have four male cousins on my grandmother’s side and none of them carry that name.
He could be a child of one of my grandmother’s sisters, but I’m not entirely sure. I am his daughter Annasuya’s grandchild, and I don’t know anyone by that name, but like I said, could be a distant relation.
Thanks,
Natalie

I want to discuss this relationship in the context of three issues; 1. Birth Place, Mylapore, Chennai, 2. Work Relationship, for example, Dr. Radhakrishnan worked in Presidency College, Madras where my father studied and worked, and 3. Spiritual Interest. We share a common interest to know man as Spiritual Being.

Dear Virat,
Thanks for contacting me. I grew up in India and I had never asked my elders to share their names with me. I always addressed people using the name that describes my relationship with the person or people involved in the relationship context. I know his son’s name as Sarvepalli Gopal for he was known to my father who studied and later worked in Presidency College of Madras. President Radhakrishnan had five daughters. His daughter Rukmini was married to my maternal grandfather’s younger brother who lived in Mylapore. I used to meet people on various social occasions but never tried to know their personal names. Kindly review the comment section. Radhakrishnan’s great granddaughter shared a comment giving the details of her family connection with Radhakrishnan.

Thanks for visiting my blog post. In any case, we are all indeed related to each other for we uphold our traditional values and the belief in Vasudhaika Kutumbam. I believe in the doctrine of Predestination. We do not choose our relationships with others. The relationships are pre planned to give us the opportunity to taste the fruits of our own actions while we pass through the stages of life’s journey called ‘Samsara’.
With Very Best Wishes,

I am from Nepal. I was born and grew up in Chennai Mylapore. My parents worked in Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s house. I grew up in his house. By the time I was born Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was no more. But i have very close connection with Sarvepalli Gopal and his wife Cauvery. They took care of me and my brothers’ studies as my parents used to work in their house. Grew up in their house for 18 years before I left for Nepal. Still have vivid memories of life spent in Dr Radhakrishnan’s house.

Dear Shri. Vishnu Prasad Adhikari,
Thanks for visiting my blog post. Thanks for sharing your lifetime experience growing up in Mylapore, Chennai, Madras where I spent my early childhood. I last visited Madras during 1974 and could not get a chance to go back. Most of my relatives moved out of Madras after the formation of Andhra State. The children of Radhakrishnan’s son-in-law ( my maternal grandfather’s younger brother) migrated to the United States. A daughter of Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan could be still living in the house where you grew up. But, I am not in contact with her.
With best wishes,
Bhavanajagat.
